What 4,248 wholesale buyer leads actually cost a Tirupur manufacturer

One apparel manufacturer, two Meta ad accounts, ₹70,444 spent, 4,248 buyer leads at ₹16.58 each. Here is the full account, what was counted, and what I would change.

Nova Attire makes garments in Tirupur and sells to wholesale buyers. Before October 2025 they found those buyers the way most Tirupur manufacturers do: references, trade visits, and a phone that rings when it rings. There was no inbound pipeline, and nobody could tell you what a buyer enquiry cost, because nothing was being measured.

Ten months later the account shows 4,248 wholesale buyer leads on ₹70,444 of spend. That is ₹16.58 per lead. Every figure in this post is from Meta Ads Manager, lifetime view, across the two ad accounts, and the screenshots sit on the Nova Attire case page.

This is the account, not a highlight reel. Including what I would do differently.

Key facts

  • 4,248 lead-form submissions across six campaigns, Oct 2025 to Jul 2026
  • ₹70,444 total spend, ₹16.58 per lead, measured lifetime in Meta Ads Manager
  • 723K impressions and 260K people reached over the same window
  • Two ad accounts: 3,585 leads in the main account, 663 in an August launch account opened ten months in
  • A lead is a completed Meta instant form, counted before any follow-up call

What a "lead" means here, exactly

Meta's lead ads put a form inside Facebook or Instagram. The buyer taps the ad, the form opens pre-filled with their profile details, they tap submit. Meta counts that as a lead at the moment of submission, as its help centre describes.

So 4,248 is the number of people who asked to be contacted. It is not orders, and it is not qualified buyers. Some were retailers looking for 50 pieces, some were other manufacturers checking prices, and some were serious wholesale accounts. The ad's job was to make the phone ring. What happens next is a different job, and I'll come back to it.

Cost per lead is simple division: amount spent divided by leads. ₹70,444 ÷ 4,248 = ₹16.58. No attribution model, no modelled conversions. If you can't reproduce a number from the Ads Manager export, don't put it on a slide.

Why the cost stayed low for ten months

Three things, in order of how much they mattered.

The product photographs well and the price is the hook. Tirupur garments are competitive on price by definition, and a wholesale buyer scrolling Instagram already knows that. The creative did not need to be clever. It needed to show the garment, state the minimum order, and imply the price band. Clever creative on a B2B manufacturing ad is usually the marketer entertaining themselves.

The form asked for less, not more. A longer form gives you fewer, better leads. A shorter form gives you more, noisier leads. For a manufacturer with a sales team that can call back, noisier and cheaper is the better trade. That is not a universal rule. A clinic taking patient enquiries would choose differently.

Nothing was rebuilt every month. The campaigns that worked were left alone. Budget moved toward what was producing and away from what wasn't, and that's most of the work in a stable account. The temptation to "refresh" a working campaign is how good accounts get worse.

The second account, and why it opened

Ten months in, Nova had a product launch. Instead of stuffing the launch into the existing account and disturbing what was working, a second ad account was opened for it in August. That account produced 663 leads on its own.

I mention this because it's the opposite of what usually happens. Most clients add spend when an account is struggling, hoping volume fixes it. Nova added an account when the first one was producing. You scale a campaign that is selling. You do not scale one that isn't and hope.

The part the ads can't fix

Here is where I'd push back on my own result. 4,248 enquiries over ten months is roughly fourteen a day, every day, including Sundays. A Tirupur manufacturer's sales desk was not built for that.

The leads that convert are the ones answered in minutes. The ones answered the next morning have usually messaged three other factories. I don't have Nova's order figures to publish yet, and I won't guess at them here. When they confirm the number, it goes on the case page with their permission and nowhere before that.

What I can say is that the follow-up gap is the single biggest cost in an account like this, bigger than any creative or targeting decision, and it is the reason the second half of my work is now AI follow-up systems, not just ads.

What I'd do Monday

If you make things in Tirupur, Karur, Erode or anywhere with a similar buyer, and you're considering lead ads:

  1. Decide who answers before you spend. One named person, one channel (WhatsApp), one target reply time. Under ten minutes during working hours is realistic for a small team.
  2. Write the three replies in advance. Price enquiry, MOQ enquiry, sample request. Have them ready to paste. Speed matters more than polish.
  3. Start with one product line and one form. Four questions maximum: name, phone, city, quantity range. Everything else you learn on the call.
  4. Set a monthly budget you can hold for three months. In this account the first meaningful read on cost per lead took about six weeks. Anyone promising a verdict in a week is reading noise.
  5. Export Ads Manager every Monday and keep the file. Lifetime view, leads and spend. It's your receipt, and it's what lets you say "₹16.58" instead of "cheap".

Where this touches my work

This is one of nine ad accounts I run or have run, and the largest by lead count. If you want to know what your own account is doing before you spend more on it, the free 10-minute ad-account audit is exactly that: I look, I tell you where the spend is leaking, no pitch deck.

// QUESTIONS FOUNDERS ASK

How much does a wholesale buyer lead cost on Meta in India?
In this account it cost ₹16.58 per lead across 4,248 leads and ₹70,444 of spend, measured lifetime in Meta Ads Manager. Costs vary with product, creative and season, so treat that as one real data point, not a benchmark.
What counts as a lead in a Meta lead ad?
A completed instant form submitted inside Facebook or Instagram. Meta records it the moment the buyer taps submit, before anyone has called them back, so a lead is an enquiry, not an order.
Why run two ad accounts for one client?
The second account was opened ten months in for a product launch, on top of a first account that was already producing leads. You add a second account to a campaign that is selling, not to rescue one that is not.
Can a manufacturer with no marketing team run lead ads?
Yes, but the ads are the easy part. The bottleneck is whoever answers 4,248 enquiries. Decide who replies, how fast, and what they say before the first rupee is spent.
